Overview
The Illyrians were an Indo-European-speaking people inhabiting the western Balkan Peninsula in ancient times, constituting one of the three main Paleo-Balkan populations alongside the Thracians and Greeks. Their territory, known as Illyria, spanned across modern-day Albania, Montenegro, Kosovo, and parts of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Slovenia. The first recorded account of the Illyrian people dates back to the 6th century BC in the works of Hecataeus of Miletus, an ancient Greek writer.
